The Office of the Chief Financial Officer - Office of Departmental Financial Services division is accepting applications for a Teller III position.
Position Summary
Teller III is an experienced level paraprofessional located within various divisions of the City of Detroit Office of the Chief Financial Officer that requires limited direction and supervision.
Tellers work in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, or other clerical processing of cash items. Key services include, but are not limited to: review of cash documents; validating authenticity of signature, numeric values, and date accuracy; operate cash registers of cash and cash processing documents; maintain change; create daily cashier reports.
Requirements
- Plans, assigns, and coordinates the work of Tellers I, II and other clerical and administrative staff;
- Cashes checks and pays out money after verifying that signatures are correct, that written and numerical amounts agree, and that amounts have sufficient funds;
- Receives checks and cashes for deposit, verifies amounts, and checks accuracy of deposit slips;
- Enters customer transactions into computers to record transactions and issues computer-generated receipts;
- Balances and counts currencies, coins and checks received, by hand, or by using coin-currency counting machine, to prepare them for deposit or shipment to branch banks;
- Examines checks for endorsements and to verify other information such as dates, bank names, identification of the persons receiving payments and the legality of the documents;
- Orders supply of cash to meet daily needs;
- Sorts and files deposit slips and checks;
- Processes transactions such as automated teller transactions and mail deposits;
- Identifies transaction mistakes when debits and credits do not balance;
- Resolves problems or discrepancies concerning customer accounts;
- Composes, types, and mails customer statements and other correspondence related to issues such as discrepancies and outstanding unpaid items;
- Performs clerical tasks such as typing and filing;
- Computes financial fees, interest, and service charges;
- Receives and counts daily inventories of cash;
- Arranges monies received in cash boxes and coin dispensers according to denomination; and
- Prepares work schedules for staff.
Qualifications
EducationHigh School graduation or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
ExperienceThree (3) years of experience of performing semi-specialized and routine clerical and office work, with specific experience in cash handling and accounting. Teller III must demonstrate proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.
