Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by: -Experience utilizing the theory, technical and operational aspects of voice, data and video communications, local and long-haul networking and telecommunication systems.

-Experience identifying wire communications, technical design, installation standards, contracting, operations and maintenance of telephone switching equipment, cable systems and station apparatus.

-Experience appyling the use of industry practices for the day-to-day operations of telecommunications systems and service.

-Experience providing recommendations, solutions and budgetary cost estimates for expansion and modernization for future telecommunication requirements.

This position is within the Work Category PROFESSIONAL at Work Level FULL PERFORMANCE, Series and Grade GG-0391-11.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST in the LITTLE CREEK BASE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE (BCO), HAMPTON ROADS BCO DIVISION, EXTERNAL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT at the NAVAL COMPUTER AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS AREA MASTER STATION ATLANTIC.
  • You will be responsible for receiving and analyzing telecommunications service requests (TSR) from host and tenant organizations.
  • You will perform frequent on-site inspections requiring examination of equipment/systems/facilities for sufficient functionality, and for adequate space and safety compliance.
  • You will consult with the heads of activities or departments to determine telecommunications requirements, or to study network traffic patterns.
  • You will prepare task orders to contract for regulated telecommunications services; and submit, along with other appropriate documentation, to contracting officials for authorization.
  • You will provide system administration for Avaya Definity and Communication Manager Telephone systems.
  • You will maintain liaison with various telecommunication contractors on such matters as equipment specifications, customer's requirements, installation, service quality, special services, and innovations.
  • You will request price information and oversee equipment installations and service schedules with appropriate vendors and customer personnel.
