Job Description

Summary

This role involves working as a Systems Accountant to manage and improve financial systems that help students and families get federal student aid, including implementing new laws like the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Full Job Description

The position is located in the Department of Education, Federal Student Aid.

As a Systems Accountant, you will assist in transforming how millions of students and families access financial aid and play a vital role in implementing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

Basic Experience Requirements One year of experience in either federal or non-federal service that is equivalent to at least a GS-12 performing two (2) out of three (3) of the following duties or work assignments: 1.

Experience in performing accounting work related to the design, development, testing, evaluation and implementation of new and/or modified systems and to participate in the development of accounting policies and procedures, analyzing user requirements, and solving accounting systems problems in difficult circumstances.

2. Experience in preparing, reviewing and analyzing accounting records and financial reports to assure activities meet operational, legislative, and regulatory requirements. 3.

Experience in providing support to a diverse group of internal and external customers utilizing knowledge of accounting systems and accounting practices and working with cross-functional teams towards a common goal.

As a Systems Accountant GS-0510-13, you will be responsible for: • Serves as a Systems Accountant and financial Transaction Specialist for FSA's financial system modules – General Ledger, Receivables, Accounts Payable and Federal Administration.

• Conducts inquiries and research corrective action on data errors of financial system transactions.

• Provides advice to financial and program managers and other accountants on unusual and difficult accounting systems and/or operating problems.

• Reviews, analyzes and validates industry financial data. • Develops segments of surveys and systems for gathering and analyzing data.
