Job Description
Summary
This job involves leading a small team of mechanics in maintaining, repairing, and inspecting various military and commercial vehicles and equipment for the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
You'll perform hands-on mechanical work while guiding and organizing your team's tasks to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Key Requirements
- At least 24 months of specialized experience in planning, organizing, and leading repair work on vehicles and equipment
- Journeyman-level knowledge in surface maintenance mechanics
- Ability to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and overhaul of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles
- Experience providing technical guidance and leadership to a team of three or more mechanics
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical publications for equipment repair
- Ability to handle administrative functions related to the role
- General experience or training demonstrating knowledge of the occupational series and leading technicians
Full Job Description
This National Guard position is for a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Leader (Temp Promo) -Title 32, Position Description Number D1287000 and is part of the WI FMS 5, Wisconsin Army National Guard.
*At management's discretion, this Temporary Promotion may be made permanent without further competition in accordance with 5CFR 335.103(c)(1)(i) GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series.
Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the WL-5801-10 level, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, must have at least 24 months experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series.
Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series. Major Duties:
As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Leader (Temp Promo) -Title 32, WL-5801-10, you will serve as a working leader of three or more Surface Maintenance Mechanics, WG-5801-10.
Performs mechanic duties involving maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.
Provides technical subordinate guidance and group leadership to employees on the team.
