PUERTO RICO NATIONAL GUARD ARMY TECHNICIAN VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT DUTY LOCATION: Maneuver Area Training and Equipment Site (MATES), CSJTC, Salinas, PR AREA OF CONSIDERATION: HRO MUST process and clear the Department of Defense (DoD), Priority Placement Program (PPP), prior to advertising all internal and external job vacancies and promotion announcements.

AREA 1 = All permanent Technician Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard.

AREA 2 = All indefinite Technician Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. First round consideration will be given to Area 1 Candidates.

(All other Areas will be screened only in the event that there are no qualified or recommended Candidates) To prevent a grade inversion, military rank allowed for this position will be determined at the final evaluation of the vacancy announcement considering the military rank of the supervisor.

Acceptance of any military technician position may cause the termination of entitlements and eligibility for all military bonuses and student loan repayments.

DUTIES: As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (D1195000),WG-5801-11, you will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, inspect, and/or overhaul a variety of complex combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment having complicated mechanical and non-mechanical systems with a variety of interconnected systems.

Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is performed in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods.

There is frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching; or working on top of, under, and in tight compartments or cramped or awkward positions.

Performs strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting.

Frequently lifts and carries items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds; and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment.

Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes.

May be required to work from ladders or work platforms at varying heights. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both inside and outside.

When inside, the incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise which is difficult to talk above.

When outside, the incumbent is exposed to bad weather, in mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas.

The incumbent is frequently exposed to irritations or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or ground. Typically works on parts and systems, which are dirty, oily, or greasy.

Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment.

Often exposed to the possibility of falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment, and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants.

Uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing, which may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which demonstrate the candidates has enough knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventive maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year in the occupational series 5801 or the equivalent EIGHTEEN (18) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of complex combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment; working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for vehicles and equipment; understanding of how measurements and tolerances impact on the mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, and electrical systems, and the components of each system; modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed.

Major Duties:

  • This position requires military membership in the Puerto Rico Army National Guard (PRARNG).
