Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of social workers at a military hospital in Texas, where you'll guide policies on mental health care, evaluate patients' emotional and social needs, and provide counseling and therapy to help service members and their families.

It's a supervisory role focused on coordinating care with doctors and other experts to support behavioral health.

A good fit would be an experienced clinical social worker who enjoys mentoring others and working in a fast-paced medical environment with a military focus.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
  • One year of specialized experience in bio-psychosocial evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling (equivalent to GS-9 level)
  • Current, active, valid, and unrestricted independent clinical social work license from a U.S. state or jurisdiction
  • Ability to perform screenings, interviews, and targeted assessments including diagnostic impressions using DSM-IV-TR or current standards
  • Experience providing individual and group therapy using modalities like cognitive-behavioral therapy and client-centered therapy
  • Skills in coordinating multidisciplinary patient treatment and providing consultation to hospital leadership and professionals

About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical):Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing bio-psychosocial evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted independent social work clinical licensure from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.

Major Duties:

  • Provide guidance to the hospital commander regarding policy in Social Work and Behavioral Health issues, Psychological and clinical consultation to other professionals.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment of patients.
  • Screen and interview patients, and perform bio-psychosocial evaluations.
  • Provide targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Makes behavioral health diagnoses as appropriate in accordance with DSM-IV-TR criteria, or other more current , accepted standards.
  • Provide individual and group therapy using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem focused psychotherapy, cognitive- behavioral therapy, and client- centered therapy.
