Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team in the Navy's public affairs office on Guam, where you'll manage communications for internal audiences, the public, and emergencies to support military goals.

You'll supervise staff like writers and photographers, plan projects, and give advice based on local cultures and politics in Guam and Micronesia.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE of COMMANDER JOINT REGION MARIANAS.

The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze.

Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:managing, developing, and implementing the internal, external, and crisis communications of a public affairs program.

  • You will assist in the development of internal, external, and crisis communications programs that strategically align messaging with actions.
  • You will provide advice and guidance considering region cultures, social patterns, and government processes.
  • You will anticipate potential problem areas in their infancy and develop succinct, cogent, courses of action to address, defuse, and resolve them.
  • You will plan work to be accomplished, set and adjust long-range priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • You will be familiarize with local Guam and Micronesia region cultures, social patterns and government processes to include history and political sensitivities.
  • You will directly supervise work of lower grade Mass Communication Specialists, Public Affairs Specialists, Photographers, Writers, and other personnel assigned to or volunteering with JRM PAO.
  • You will establish goals and objectives for the Public Affairs team in alignment with the Director of Public Affairs and CJRM priorities.
