Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: You will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer with overall responsibility for law enforcement patrol operations ensuring that assigned personnel properly execute law enforcement duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing, mentoring, evaluating, and training subordinate police officers in law enforcement practices and policies; reviewing preliminary investigations and police reports to ensure offenses and/or incidents are accurately documented; and conducting law enforcement duties in the protection of life, property and civil rights.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.

The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers.

The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect.

Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as desk officer with responsibility for all law enforcement patrol operations communicating with mobile patrol units to pass directions to subordinate law enforcement officers.
  • You will coordinate emergency response between law enforcement, security, fire, and other emergency units, and receive and act on calls concerning reports of violations or complaints.
  • You will assign work to be performed by employees in the unit and review work on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis.
  • You will ensure all patrols are in compliance with organizational SOPs, policies, current law enforcement techniques and skills.
  • You will coordinate desk operations with prior and succeeding shifts and ensure that incomplete actions are fully understood.
