The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor and/or flight chief, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Security Forces Flight.
(Conditions of Employment continued): Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties.
Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic event, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as running in pursuits or emergency responses, long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities.
Employees engage in such exertions when responding to alarms and walking foot patrols in and around buildings.
This position may require common physical characteristics and abilities and dexterity and the strength to pursue, and detain uncooperative suspects.
In addition, this position requires the ability to employ "infantry" small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to employ "Active Shooter" response tactics as a member of a small team.
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR), Police Series, 0083.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience include knowledge of a body of laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.
Assigns work to subordinate employees based on organization priorities and consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security AF, Federal and DoD rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principles and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism and physical security.
Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response and dispatch.
Ability to operate the Incident Management System and the Security Force Management Information System. Ability to plan, organizes, and directs the functions and staff of an organization.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of a Security Forces Flight, ensuring that personnel comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the Security Forces Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Performs and enforces the full range of police officer duties within the military installation.
