Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of engineers in designing, repairing, and maintaining the structural parts of Navy ships at a shipyard in Hawaii.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NAVAL ARCHITECT (STRUCTURAL) in the STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DIVISION - CODE 250 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Naval Architect or Engineer, providing structural technical guidance and leadership for the complex design, repair, overhaul, or conversion of naval vessels by developing and adapting process improvement initiatives, assessing and assigning resources, and evaluating programs to mitigate risks ensuring compliance with all standards and requirements in support of shipyard operations.

  • You will develop strategic and tactical plans in alignment with division goals and objectives.
  • You will assess and assign resources to meet or mitigate workload demands.
  • You will identify and implement controls (e.g. roles and responsibilities, shift assignments, overtime, training schedules, leave schedules) to ensure proper delivery of products and services in accordance with higher authority and labor agreements.
  • You will maintain awareness of external and environmental changes, assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and initiate actions to keep abreast of engineering advancements and changes to improve personal and professional growth.
  • You will identify and implement initiatives (e.g. training, seminars, assignments, projects, support) to mentor subordinates and mitigate competency gaps.
  • You will provide technical direction for naval architecture/structural engineering requirements on surface naval vessel structures for all non-nuclear support work and other projects as assigned.
  • Identify and review indicators to measure and assess the quality of products and services and identify process performance concerns.
  • Initiate, participate, conduct or review methods to investigate problems and develop initiatives to prevent or mitigate risks or recurrence (e.g. meetings, critiques).
