Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead firefighter at a military base in Texas, where you'll supervise a team handling building fires, small aircraft emergencies, and hazardous material incidents, including chemical or explosive threats.

You'll plan shifts, train staff, and ensure quick responses to keep everyone safe.

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is located at Fort Bliss, Texas.

This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized experience: One year of specialized defined as serving as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or government fire department or brigade ; participating in controlling and extinguishing structural fires; conducting fire rescue operations for an organization; identifying and eliminating potential fire hazards; operating fire communications equipment; and assisting in delivering fire protection and prevention training.

This specialized experience is equivalent to work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service (GS-08).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements above, applicants must also possess: Fire Officer II Fire Instructor I Fire Inspector I HAZMAT Incident Commander HAZMAT Technician Airport Firefighter Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (National Registry OR State of Texas) Major Duties:

  • Serves as a Station Captain in a remote location to provide lead and non-supervisory station personnel with basic supervision, and to provide quality structural and small aircraft firefighting.
  • Conducts structural and small aircraft/helicopter firefighting activities on assigned shift.
  • Plans and schedules firefighting equipment and crews including 3-4 major pieces of firefighting equipment and from 4-50 firefighters.
  • Exercises supervision over subordinates in actual firefighting activities, to the HAZMAT Response Team
  • Plans work schedules and sequence of operations to meet general schedules, priorities, and requirements established by "Assistant Chief
  • Informs employees on management policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to the station.
  • Responds to the presence or potential release of hazardous materials to include CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives).
