Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead firefighter at a Navy base in Florida, where you'll supervise a team, ensure equipment and people are ready for emergencies, and handle planning and reporting for fire safety.

It's ideal for someone with hands-on firefighting experience who likes leading others in high-pressure situations and staying organized with records and inspections.

You'll need strong physical fitness to work in tough outdoor conditions during fires or hazards.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent, including advising on policies, maintaining records/reports, and inspecting personnel/equipment
  • Possess all required DoD/IFSAC/ProBoard certifications: Firefighter I and II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Incident Commander, and NR-EMT
  • Ability to develop contingency plans for emergency management
  • Compile statistical data on fire inspections, investigations, and safety education
  • Adjust duty assignments and address disciplinary actions for team members
  • Pass annual physical examination and perform physically demanding tasks like standing, stooping, climbing in adverse weather and hazardous conditions
  • No disabling physical conditions that limit firefighting usefulness

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAS PENSACOLA.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Advising staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of higher level management or headquarters; 2) Maintaining records, preparing reports, and maintaining a complete and comprehensive file pertaining to the division's activities; 3) Inspecting personnel and equipment frequently to ensure operational readiness.

These certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbent will perform firefighting functions in adverse weather, hazardous, and related conditions, for extended periods of time.

Must be capable of standing, stooping, climbing, and walking. Must have no disabling or handicapped physical functions that would limit usefulness.

Must pass an annual physical examination administered by the Navy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is partially accomplished in an indoor setting, but includes extended periods out of doors, in routine and emergency situations, in all weather conditions.

Incumbent could be exposed to some life-threating situations in hazardous ground operations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will Develop contingency plans to meet emergency management operational requirements.
  • You will Compile statistical data concerning plans, review, fire inspections and corrections, fire investigations, and fire and life safety education activities.
  • You will Adjust duty assignments to meet mission needs.
  • You will Address adverse and disciplinary actions with lower level employees to support smooth work operations.
