Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of firefighters on a Navy base in San Diego, overseeing daily operations, responding to fires and emergencies, and providing basic medical support like CPR.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the N30, FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES of NB SAN DIEGO.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Leading the day-to-day operations for assigned shift providing guidance on firefighter related procedures; Fighting structural fires using pre-fire planning methods and knowledge of layouts and design; Operating firefighting emergency vehicles and equipment; Providing hazardous material incident response; and, Providing basic life support procedures as needed for each emergency call.

DoD Certifications Required: Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, and HAZMAT Incident Commander.

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

Additional Certification Required: National Registry EMT (NREMT) If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will evaluate the work performance of junior firefighters or employees.
  • You will assign work to junior firefighters or employees based on priorities, requirements, and capabilities.
  • You will direct the deployment and use of firefighting equipment and personnel on the scene of emergencies.
  • You will analyze the environment (e.g., relationship between fuels, topography, wind, humidity) in the fire environment to ensure use of the correct firefighting apparatus.
  • You will use fire suppression systems (e.g., wet and dry sprinkler systems, deluge systems, carbon dioxide, dry chemical systems) to extinguish fires.
  • You will monitor a patient's baseline vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse) during a medical emergency.
  • You will perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies.
