Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of firefighters at a Navy base in Washington, where you'll supervise emergency responses to fires and hazards, ensure safety protocols are followed, and manage training and performance for your crew.

It's a hands-on supervisory role that combines fighting fires, providing medical aid, and handling dangerous materials while overseeing daily operations.

A good fit would be someone with proven firefighting experience, leadership skills, and all the required safety certifications who thrives in high-pressure team environments.

Key Requirements

  • HAZMAT Awareness, Operations, Technician, and Incident Command certifications (under NFPA standards adopted by DoD)
  • Driver Operator Pumper certification (DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT) certification

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Detecting fire hazards (potential and immediate) and determining corrective action; 2) Operating firefighting vehicles and equipment in accordance with principles of hydraulics and firefighting techniques; 3) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations; 4) Applying the theory of fire propagation and progression to reduce fire hazards and/or combat fires; and 5) Performing supervisory duties such as managing, organizing, directing, providing technical leadership and guidance, assigning and prioritizing work, position management, evaluating work performance of subordinates and resolving disciplinary issues.

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter I & Firefighter II, Fire Officer I & Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, HAZMAT Awareness, Operations, Technician and HAZMAT Incident Command (under NFPA standards adopted by DOD), Driver Operator Pumper, and possess National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT) certification.

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

This is an obligated position. The former incumbent has return rights to this position under PL 86-585. Major Duties:

  • You will analyze local conditions and fire prevention or protection programs to verify a fire department meets operational conditions.
  • You will administer training, orientation, indoctrination, and education programs for fire safety and awareness.
  • You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations.
  • You will evaluate the effectiveness of a hazardous material response.
  • You will monitor a fire department's workload to ensure goals are met.
  • You will provide technical guidance; identify training needs; interview and select candidates for vacancies; recommend promotions; approve leave; recommend awards and resolve disciplinary issues.
