Job Description

Summary

This job is for a Deputy Fire Chief who oversees the Navy's fire and emergency services at a base in Georgia, managing everything from daily operations to budgets and staff training.

It involves leading teams in fighting fires, handling hazardous materials, and responding to medical and nuclear emergencies.

A good fit would be someone with strong leadership experience in firefighting and a passion for safety in high-stakes environments.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent, including directing fire prevention programs and department functions like budgets and personnel
  • Management of structural firefighting, marine/shipboard firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue, emergency medical services, and nuclear/radiological emergencies
  • Ability to resolve grievances, handle disciplinary actions, set performance standards, and assign workloads for fire personnel
  • Possess Firefighter I and II certifications (National Registry, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
  • Possess Marine Fire Fighter, HAZMAT Technician, and HAZMAT Incident Commander certifications (National Registry, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
  • Possess Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, and National Registry EMT certifications (National Registry, IFSAC, or ProBoard)

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter as the Deputy Fire Chief in the Navy Fire & Emergency Services of NAVSUBASE KINGSBAY.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Performing administrative and technical direction of the fire prevention and protection programs for a department or station to ensure long range organizational objectives are met; 2) Directing overall Fire Department functions to include budgets, personnel, equipment, promotional activities, and operational procedures; 3) Providing overall management of a department's structural firefighting, Marine / Shipboard firefighting, hazardous materials program, rescue and emergency medical services, nuclear reactor - radiological emergencies, nuclear surety and ordinance emergencies; and 4) Resolving grievances, effecting disciplinary actions, setting performance standards, and assigning workload for subordinate fire personnel.

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Marine Fire Fighter, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, and National Registry EMT.

These certifications must have been awarded by National Registry, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

  • You will serve as a senior authority and advisor for fire protection for the installation.
  • You will assess and formulate operating expenditures including staffing requirements.
  • You will Interpret new fire protection requirements and recommend the adoption or implementation of applicable policies and procedures.

  • You will prepare fire protection policies for the installation and promulgate directives governing fire protection matters.
  • You will interpret agency fire regulations for fire prevention and fire suppression.
