Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the Fire and Emergency Services Division of NAVAL SUBMARINE BASE NEW LONDON.

For Outside applicants claiming VEOA and VRA (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service) Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting in developing, evaluating or directing a fire prevention program; 2) Developing and providing training in fire protection and prevention; 3) Evaluating building or construction plans for ensuring compliance to fire codes and practices; 4) Conducting fire protection and prevention inspections.

  • You will supervise a fire prevention staff of two to nine fire inspectors in daily work assignments.
  • You will conduct and direct on-the-job training of subordinates, explain training and developmental goals, report training needs to the chain of command.
  • You will assist in the development and direction of a fire prevention program.
  • You will evaluate facilities to determine the need, quantity type, and rating of first aid firefighting appliances.
  • You will review, update, and propose revisions to local instructions, guides, policies, and procedures relative to fire prevention programs.
