Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team to oversee and evaluate the safety and maintenance of cranes and heavy lifting equipment used at Navy bases.

You'll inspect programs, review records, investigate accidents, and ensure everything follows Navy rules to prevent issues.

It's a great fit for someone with experience managing equipment safety in a technical or military setting who enjoys supervising others and solving compliance problems.

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-13 level or equivalent in administering weight handling equipment (WHE) quality assurance programs for cranes at naval shore activities

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST in the Operations Oversight Department, Compliance Division of Navy Crane Center (NCC).

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) administering a weight handling equipment (WHE) quality assurance program, including cranes utilized at naval shore activities; 2) applying the principles and procedures used in the maintenance, operation, inspection and testing of WHE; 3) conducting evaluations and assessments of weight handling programs by applying weight handling program requirements, including Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) weight handling requirements; AND 4) using rules and regulations related to cranes, crane rigging, lifting standards, and personnel and operations safety to manage WHE compliance.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will conduct scheduled weight handling program evaluations at Navy shore activities.
  • You will compile evaluation finding data, identify trends, and provide lessons learned to activities including guidance or direction if warranted.
  • You will review activity records regarding crane inspection frequencies, preventive maintenance, repair history, resolution of deficiencies, documentation of crane alterations, accidents, and personnel training and qualifications.
  • You will plan work to be accomplished by subordinates based on priorities.
  • You will interpret directives, instructions, and regulations establishing Navy-wide lifting and handling policies and standards.
  • You will assist in weight handling accident investigations and assistance visits to other activities.
