Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of investigators to prevent the illegal diversion of controlled drugs and chemicals, overseeing major investigations that span multiple regions or countries, and advising on policies to enforce drug laws.

It's a high-level supervisory role in the Drug Enforcement Administration focused on protecting public health and national security from drug trafficking.

A good fit would be someone with extensive experience in law enforcement or regulatory compliance, strong leadership skills, and a passion for combating drug-related crimes.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-14 level or equivalent in planning and overseeing drug manufacturing, importing, and trafficking investigations

  • Knowledge of ensuring administrative, operational, and legal compliance in drug enforcement programs

GS-15: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties: 1) Planning, conducting, and overseeing investigations encompassing the manufacturing, importing and trafficking of illicit drugs and the diversion of chemicals which may involve large, complex and multi-mission organizations and lead to cases of multi-jurisdictional, national, or international significance; 2) Providing guidance in order to prevent and eliminate the illicit diversion of controlled pharmaceuticals and listed chemicals; 3) Ensuring administrative, operational, and legal program compliance; 4) Assisting in developing division wide policies pertaining to the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), the Chemical Diversion and Trafficking Act (CDTA), and the Narcotic Addict Treatment Act; and 5) Detecting violations and pursuing appropriate administrative, civil, and/or judicial action.

The Supervisory Diversion Investigator (Section Chief) position in Arlington, Virginia is located in the following sections: Liaison & Outreach Section (DPL) Policy Section (DPY) Among other duties, this position will support: Serving as the principal advisor to the Deputy Assistant Administrator in this area and is considered the expert in all Diversion related matters.

Providing technical and administrative management over supervisory investigators primarily involved in planning and overseeing investigations of potential diversion of controlled pharmaceuticals and listed chemicals.

These investigations primarily involve cases at the higher echelon or of greater overall significance, generally with national or international involvement.

Ensuring that all investigations are conducted within the scope of the Federal drug laws and are in accordance with the agency's rules, policies, and regulations.

Establishing and implementing strategic objectives and priorities related to the Diversion Control Program.

Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, the registrant community, and other contacts.
