Major Duties:
Duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent of this position serves as the Air Conditioning (AC) Equipment Mechanic supervisor under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Chief, Engineering Service.
The incumbent serves as the facility subject area expert and manager for the Utilities Section.
The incumbent will supervise a staff of 11 employees on the Tuskegee Campus and on the Montgomery Campus a staff of 12 employees.
The major function of this position includes exercising full supervisory responsibility for control over work operations involving a minimum of ten subordinate workers.
The incumbent performs tasks which include the coordination, setting of priorities and time limits that result in the efficient and productive operation of the Section.
The Section provides seven day-a-week, 24 hours-a-day services to the facility as needed.
The day-to-day operational management of the Section is complex and requires constant attention and adjustment to ongoing changes, the incumbent plans, coordinates, and directs a variety of work operations related to the position.
Supervisor must accomplish the overall effective and economical use of subordinate personnel, equipment, materials, and methods to meet production goals and quality standards.
The incumbent is directly responsible for the development and management of the annual budget for the section, including all purchases and contracts.
Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the agency.
Position Description Title/PD#: 619-10195-A AC Equipment Mechanic Supervisor Physical Requirements: The work requires carrying of equipment, tools and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds.
Most of the equipment can be reached from the floor or from ladders.
Occasionally, platforms and scaffolding are needed to reach parts of the systems such as fans, electrical and water lines and duct work.
The incumbent is required to stoop, stretch, bend, kneel and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Most of the work is usually performed inside, but the incumbent is frequently subject to sudden temperature changes when working on equipment such as walk-in freezer units.
He/She is occasionally subjected to cuts, burns, electrical shocks, and respiratory ailments; and exposed to repeated, prolonged or concentrated amounts of refrigerant gases that may cause toxic effects on eyes, skin, and internal organs.
There is an occasional requirement to work outside, on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads.
