Summary

Full Job Description

This announcement will be used to fill positions with an entry grade of GS-7, or GS-8 with a target grade of GS-8.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06 for GS-07 and GS-07 for GS-08) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-07: Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Maintaining accounting or financial ledgers, posting financial transactions, preparing accounting reports, reconciling accounts, and working with a variety of accounting and financial automated systems.

Time-in-Grade GS-07: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

To be considered for the GS-07, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher in the Federal service.

GS-08: Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Processing and auditing complex contracts and vendor pay entitlement transactions, reconciling pay system and financial system data and working with a variety of electronic systems to review and resolve pay transaction issues.

Time-in-Grade GS-08: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

To be considered for the GS-08, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-07 or higher in the Federal service.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Interprets regulations, requirements, and policies, including changes, updates, and automated systems modifications, to ensure compliance. Trains and assists lower level accounting technicians with techniques to correct and process accounting inputs.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance and reconciliation of accounts and trial balances by reviewing documents for verification of accounting data and determining entries required to correct discrepancies.
  • Supervises the work of accounting technicians in the examination, verification and maintenance of accounts and accounting data.
  • Ensures accuracy, propriety, and legality of accounting transactions through extensive review of documents.
  • Provides direction and supervision over the receipt, review and processing of all types of accounting transactions.
  • Positions filled at less than the full performance level will be developmental in nature.
