Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of supervisors in managing accounting operations for a Department of Defense financial service, ensuring goals are met through planning, performance oversight, and reporting.

It suits experienced accountants with supervisory backgrounds who enjoy directing teams and handling financial responsibilities in a government setting.

Ideal candidates have strong leadership skills and a solid foundation in accounting practices.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in accounting, or equivalent combination of education and 4+ years of professional accounting experience
  • One of: 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing (up to 6 in business law), CPA or CIA certification, or degree with substantial accounting coursework
  • Supervisory experience of at least one year
  • Experience as a second-line supervisor directing first-line supervisors (highly preferred)
  • Professional experience in Department of Defense Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) accounting (highly preferred)
  • Ability to plan, assign work, evaluate performance, counsel, discipline, mentor, and train staff
  • Skills in preparing financial reports, recommendations, and assessing financial positions

This position is located at Defense Finance and Accounting Service- Texarkana.. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: A bachelor's degree is required which included a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting and professional work experience of the type described above.

or Combination of education and experience - at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.

The applicant's background must also include one of the following: 1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality.

This can include up to 6 hours of business law; 2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or 3.

Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g. 15 semester hours, but that does not fully the 24-semester hour requirement.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Professional experience working within a Department of Defense (DoD) Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) accounting environment.

Possess at least one year of supervisory experience.

Possess at least one year of experience as a second-line supervisor (or equivalent), where your primary duty was directing the work of other first-line supervisors.

  • Supervises 3-10 first-line supervisors performing accounting management.
  • Directs the performance of responsible department to ensure the work unit goals, objectives, metrics, and deliverables are accomplished to include implementing action plans and procedures for performance metrics not meeting targets.
  • Plans and assigns work, develops performance standards and evaluates performance, counsels and disciplines, mentors and trains.
  • Prepares various reports of finding, recommendations, and financial position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
