This summer internship lets students work as an aide to experienced electricians on Capitol Hill, helping with tasks like installing wiring, light fixtures, and office equipment while learning from building plans and diagrams.
It's a great way to gain hands-on experience in electrical work and explore public service careers.
Ideal for high school or college students interested in trades, who are at least 16 years old and U.S. citizens or permanent residents seeking citizenship.
The AOC has unique and exciting opportunities to serve as an Electrician Aide during the Summer Internship Program. This program offers hands on professional experience, networking, training, and most of all, exposure to careers in public service, on Capitol Hill.
All students MUST be U.S. Citizens or a person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B).
Applications will be accepted from students who are at least sixteen (16) years of age by June 30, 2026, AND currently attending a high school, college or university.
Note: Participation in the Summer Intern Employment Program is limited to a total of three years.
Candidates are eligible to participate no more than three years, collectively or consecutively, in the Summer Intern Employment Program.
Candidates who have reached the three years in the program will be deemed ineligible to participate this calendar year.
Major Duties:
Electrician Aide This internship provides excellent professional experience for students who are seeking or pursuing electrical careers.
As an intern in this role, you'll have an opportunity to regularly assists journeyman electricians in performing duties common to the trade such as: cutting, bending and installing conduit and pulling wire; installing light fixtures and receptacles; and installing computer cable, hooking up office equipment and drilling and mounting supports for electrical equipment.
While receiving direction from senior employees, you will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
