This summer internship role involves helping professionals create cost estimates for building projects on Capitol Hill, such as new constructions, repairs, and restorations.
Interns will review drawings, analyze costs for labor and materials, and learn about construction methods while working with architects and engineers.
It's ideal for high school or college students interested in construction, engineering, or project management who want hands-on experience in public service.
The AOC has unique and exciting opportunities to serve as a Cost Estimator Aide during the Summer Internship Program, which offers hands on professional experience, networking, training and most of all exposure to careers in public service, on Capitol Hill.
All students MUST be U.S. Citizens or a person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B).
Applications will be accepted from students who are at least sixteen (16) years of age by June 30, 2026, AND currently attending a high school, college or university.
Students studying construction management, project management, engineering or related field will be considered.
Note: Participation in the Summer Intern Employment Program is limited to a total of three years.
Candidates are eligible to participate no more than three years, collectively or consecutively, in the Summer Intern Employment Program.
Candidates who have reached the three years in the program will be deemed ineligible to participate this calendar year.
Major Duties:
Cost Estimator Aide This is a great opportunity to gain experience assisting staff with preparing cost estimates for a variety of new construction, interior and exterior alterations, restorations, additions and repairs to existing structures under AOC’s jurisdiction.
Students in the role will also assist cost estimators with analyzing and compiling estimate data that impacts the cost of labor, materials, equipment and other factors to ensure an accurate estimate, as well as, evaluating and recommending construction methods and materials.
Students will also gain experience reviewing drawings, specifications and cost history and will confer with cost estimators for requirements to provide contract architects and engineers, managers and consultants project estimates/proposals.
