This summer internship as an Architectural Aide lets students help architects with basic design tasks, administrative support, and tools like computer-aided design in the historic U.S. Capitol complex.
It's a hands-on way to gain real-world experience in federal government work and explore careers in public service.
It's ideal for high school or college students passionate about architecture who want to build practical skills in a prestigious setting.
The AOC is accepting applications for multiple Architecture Aide summer internships, that offer skill enrichment and experiential learning while promoting careers in public service.
The summer internship program is a unique opportunity to gain real world experience within the federal government and throughout the historic U.S. Capitol complex.
All students MUST be U.S. Citizens or a person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B).
Applications will be accepted from students who are at least sixteen (16) years of age by June 30, 2026, AND currently attending a high school, college or university.
High school students must have experience with computer aided design (CAD) and/or geographic information systems (GIS).
College students must have a major in architecture or other related fields such as architectural engineering, architectural history, environmental design, landscape architecture, etc.
Note: Participation in the Summer Intern Employment Program is limited to a total of three years.
Candidates are eligible to participate no more than three years, collectively or consecutively, in the Summer Intern Employment Program.
Candidates who have reached the three years in the program will be deemed ineligible to participate this calendar year.
Major Duties:
Architectural Aide This internship provides professional experience for students who are seeking or pursuing an Architectural degree.
This is also for students who have Computer Assisted Design and Drafting (CADD) experience.
In this role, as an Architecture Aide, students will provide assistance to Architects with basic architectural design services, as well as administrative and project management related support.
Additionally, students may assist with CADD, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other design needs for projects throughout the Capitol complex.
