Base salary range: $30,286 - $39,372
Typical requirements: 1 year general experience. 2 years college or associate degree.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This is a summer internship at the Government Accountability Office where you'll assist in analyzing government programs and operations to help improve how the government works.
You'll gain hands-on experience in administrative tasks, learning analytical skills while working on real projects under senior staff.
It's ideal for undergraduate students interested in public policy, analysis, or government service who want to build practical skills in a nonpartisan agency.
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress.
We accomplish our mission by providing objective and reliable information and analysis to the Congress, to federal agencies, and to the public, and recommending improvements, when appropriate, on a wide variety of issues to make government work better.
This vacancy is for Summer internship positions. The anticipated start dates begin in May 2026. All qualification requirements must be met by the start of the internship.
To qualify for the GS-04 level you MUST be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program, AND meet one of the following criteria: You must have completed 60 semester hours or 90 quarter credits of Bachelor's level education; OR You must possess an Associate's degree.
Note: You must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor's program seeking a degree from an accredited educational institution on a full or half-time basis.
If at any point during the internship (and for any reason) your status as a student changes to that of a non-student, your internship will be terminated. Major Duties:
As a GAO Undergraduate Intern (Management and Program Analysis), you will work within one of GAO's Chief Administrative Offices or Staff Office to increase your knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The work assignments may involve any of the following tasks: Develops knowledge of the roles and mission within GAO.
Develops knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques needed to carry out individual work assignments. Participates actively in scheduled training programs.
Participates with senior staff in conducting non routine projects. Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects and initiatives.
