The USPS OIG is seeking students enrolled in college/university programs to fill our Student Cooperative (Paid) position on the Budget and Accounting Team within Mission Support located in Arlington, VA.
The candidate will assist in gathering and analyzing data and reporting results and conclusions. Bring your skills and voice to our team!
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS You must meet ALL of the minimum requirements. Students must be currently enrolled full or half-time in an accredited college or university.
(MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPT STATING CURRENT ENROLLMENT STATUS, GPA AND IN GOOD STANDING - an unofficial transcript from the university is acceptable.
May be required to produce an official transcript prior to receipt of a formal offer.) AND Must be in academic good standing as defined by the college or university, earning at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.
AND Must be currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
AND Must be able to report to work in the USPS-OIG office for which you are selected during core business hours.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Background in business administration, data analytics, or information technology Familiarity with/experience using Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate Knowledge of SQL for budgeting and forecasting Proficiency in SharePoint management.
Experience with quantitative data analysis. Strong writing skills and experience in drafting and editing a variety of written products. Experience conducting business, policy, or other research.
Experience in creating presentations and other visual communication materials.

The selected candidate will deliver comprehensive support to the budget team by assisting with budget justification, formulation, and execution.
Key responsibilities include conducting guided research, preparing financial reports, and developing policy documentation. Additional duties encompass technical and administrative tasks as required.
Participation in the Student Cooperative Program enables continuous, year-round employment, contingent upon active enrollment in an accredited academic institution.
The Student Cooperative Program is available for continuous employment throughout the year, while enrolled in school.
Candidates will be evaluated on the skills that they possess that are directly related to the duties of the position and the experience, education and training that indicate the applicant's ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

The USPS OIG uses a Pay Banding system, which is equivalent to the Federal GS scale. Grade and salary determinations will be made based upon a candidate's education and professional experience.
This position is being advertised at the Administrative Band level. The base salary range for this position is $16.73 - $20.15/hour. Locality Pay is authorized.

The student cooperative performs specialized duties with continuing responsibility for projects, questions, or issues that arise in the area of assignment/curriculum.
Each assignment typically consists of a series of related actions or decisions prior to final completion.
This role centers on supporting budget activities, including budget justification, formulation, and execution, while applying knowledge of advanced data analytics techniques.
The ideal candidate should have some experience in utilizing SQL, Power Query, or Power Automate to contribute to financial planning and reporting.
A strong interest in optimizing data workflows and generating insightful financial reports is essential, with additional responsibilities including analyzing budget trends, preparing data-driven presentations, and assisting in the development of standard operating procedures related to budget functions.
Assist in Core Budget function, such as budget justification, budget execution and budget formulation duties.
Assist in the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports and presentations. Assist in the documentation on policy and standard operating procedures on budget activities.
Help maintain the group's SharePoint-based team site. Provide administrative assistance to directors and managers as needed.
