Full Job Description

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S.

Customs and Border Protection, Operations Support, Immediate Office of the Executive Assistant Commissioner, located in Washington, DC.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Creating and developing written products that are compliant with either agency or standardized writing practices for style, grammar, and formatting of various types of written materials.

Developing and evaluating the effectiveness of communications strategies leveraging diverse communication mediums, e.g., email, intranet, social media, printed materials, etc.

Performing detailed analysis of organizational policy issues, including their operational and employee impact, to accurately predict communication challenges and potential employee sentiment.

Developing and evaluating information programs that enhance understanding among stakeholders, including those who may be opposed or indifferent to agency programs.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity.

To be considered well qualified under CTAP, you must be rated at a minimum score of 85 for this position. Major Duties:

The position serves as a Strategic Communications Specialist, responsible for providing communications program management and advisory services, evaluating the effectiveness of internal communications strategies and materials, and advising management on major CBP Operations Support mission and administrative programs.

This position starts at a salary of $121,785.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $158,322.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

The position's primary duties include: Creating, implementing, and evaluating communication strategies and programs to enhance engagement with stakeholder communities.

Planning, researching, writing, and editing internal and external publications such as newsletters, fact sheets, reports, press releases, and social media content.

Creating, editing, facilitating approval, and posting messages and content to social media and other platforms.

Posting new information and updates in a careful and timely manner, as a CBPNet Web Content Administrator and OS Collaboration Site Web Content Coordinator.

Planning and coordinating briefings, presentations, and conferences for executives, ensuring accurate, concise, and timely information is available to leadership, management, and employees.
