Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a motivated, detail-oriented arts professional with an interest in theater and live events.
Experience working with performers, artists, or presenting groups is helpful, along with an understanding of the needs of independent artists and performing groups.
The role involves collaborating with a variety of creative partners and supporting the scheduling and use of a theater space within an active arts community.
A background in theater or live event production, including technical theater experience, is welcome but not required.
This is the full journey level class within the Cultural Specialist series.
Employees within this class are distinguished from the Cultural Specialist by the performance of the full range of duties assigned and by the level of experience attained.
Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from higher level supervisory or management staff.
Acts as a lead worker, exercising functional or technical supervision, including scheduling and assigning tasks, providing guidance, ensuring work is completed according to proper procedure, monitoring work progress, and reviewing results.
Examination ProcessA civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination.
Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date.
The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only.
The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list.Eligible List
You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.
Selection Process
Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable).
Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
Some positions may require preliminary background checks.
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/ or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.
Essential Functions:
Participates in the preparation and administration of program budgets. Submits budget recommendations.
Monitors all applicable financial transactions, expenditures, and identifies and reports potential financial overruns and variances at an early stage.
Prepares reports on actual and estimated revenues and expenditures.
Monitors and maintains appropriate levels of supplies, equipment, and inventory to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Estimates time, materials, and equipment required to complete assigned jobs and requisitions materials as needed.
Participates in the procurement process, including researching vendors and assisting with specifications.
Marginal Functions:
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible cultural programming or cultural administrative experience.
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in fine arts, drama, theater arts or a related field.
May substitute combination of equivalent education and related experience.
The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.Licenses and Certifications:Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge of:
Performing arts and gallery program management and technical skills consistent with performing arts functions.
Advanced principles of visual arts.
Operations, services and activities of a community and cultural affairs program.
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Skills in:
Directing, managing and implementing art exhibitions and performance arts productions.
Leading, organizing and reviewing the work of assigned staff.
Preparing clear and concise reports.
Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, especially the cultural affairs community.
