This job involves leading quick administrative hearings for cases involving domestic violence or mental health issues in the probation and parole system, making decisions on violations and sanctions within tight deadlines.
The role also includes handling a smaller set of regular hearings and staying updated through specialized training.
It's a good fit for experienced hearings officers who are detail-oriented, fair-minded, and comfortable working independently in a legal-like setting within South Carolina's justice system.
*This position will support the Office of Administrative Hearings as it relates to the Domestic Violence Caseloads.
The Candidate will be required to attend specialized training and maintain a schedule in order to conduct expedited Hearings, produce findings and supporting documentation within a 48 hour period.
Will also maintain a smaller Caseload of regular hearings.
Under general supervision conducts expedited administrative hearings for specialized caseloads (Domestic Violence and/or Mental Health) as independent, quasi-judicial adjudicators regarding alleged violations of all supervision programs administered by the Department.
Renders expedited decisions and submits findings within 48 hours based on state law, policy and procedures, and evidence presented.
Imposes sanctions and sentences as mandated by The Sentencing Reform Act of 2010 and Agency policy using evidence-based practices as a guiding force.
Maintains a small caseload of regular administrative hearings as directed by the Assistant Chief Hearings Officer for the assigned Hearings District.
Attends specialized training regarding specialized caseloads.
A bachelor's degree and experience in probation, parole, corrections, social services, or unemployment insurance as appropriate for the position.At least one year experience as a PPP Hearings Officer.
C-1 Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
A bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of probation, parole or related experience with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses; or a Master’s degree and one year of probation, parole, or related experience.
