This Special Education Advisor position with the Bureau of Special Education, Division of Monitoring and Improvement serves counties in the Central Division region, specifically Intermediate Units 9 (Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties) and Intermediate Unit (IU) 10 (Center, Clearfield and Clinton counties). This position plays a key role in providing essential support, ensuring our state's students are provided with a thorough and efficient education system. If you are well read on federal and state special education law, policy, procedures and guidelines; have a passion for supporting schools in providing services to students with disabilities; and have strong analytical and writing skills, this position is for you!

Requirements

As a Special Education Advisor, you will serve as Chairperson of compliance monitoring visits to designated Local Education Agencies (LEAs) within your assigned regions.

This involves negotiating, approving, and verifying the implementation of corrective action plans resulting from any findings of non-compliance, such as, pre-monitoring arrangements, on-site activities, fiscal responsibility, preparation of preliminary reports, as well as review and approval of the final report.

You will be responsible for conducting fact findings, assisting in the development of statewide processes, investigating complaints, and supporting statewide dispute resolution efforts.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in trainings, presentation activities, and public meetings to improve programs and services for students with disabilities, and handle inquires regarding federal and state regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of professional experience in special education including two years as an administrator of a special education program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes two years as an administrator of a special education program.
