Summary

This job involves working as a social worker to help people struggling with alcohol and substance abuse by evaluating their needs, creating treatment plans, and providing counseling in individual, group, or family settings.

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: You will perform professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Substance Abuse) Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your license.) Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients; formulating behavioral health treatment plans; and providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Major Duties:

  • Utilize complex rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance abuse evaluations of eligible patients referred for consultation.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Document case findings, diagnoses, and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collect data to evaluate treatment outcomes.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
