Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a senior social worker at a walk-in behavioral health center in Minneapolis, where you'll assess adults in mental health crises, create safety plans, and connect them to resources without managing a traditional caseload.

It's a fast-paced role in a team setting focused on person-centered care to support diverse community members during tough times.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

Hennepin County Behavioral Health Center (BHC) is seeking a Senior Psychiatric Social Worker.

This position provides an opportunity to make a difference in a diverse community, enhance your clinical skills in a fast-paced, team environment, and be part of a department with the mission to strengthen communities by improving the health of individuals and families.

The BHC is a walk-in center that provides an array of person-centered services in Hennepin County that includes medical, psychiatric, and stabilization services.

Community members are able to walk-in and access assistance to these services. As a team member, you will make decisions about an individual's safety in real time while assessing their strengths.

Instead of managing a caseload, you will be providing residents with safety planning and reassurance in times of crisis and will support their needs and provide needed resources.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Behavioral Health Center at 1800 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404. The Behavioral Health Center operates Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Work hours will vary, but will require to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.

There will be a shift differential of $1.40 per hour paid for shifts that occur on Saturday or Sunday.

In this position, you will:

  • Conduct initial mental health screening of adults to determine the client's needs.
  • Provide a crisis assessment for adults in a community-based setting.
  • Complete mental status examinations, determine appropriate provisional diagnoses, and develop short-term treatment goals and intervention plans based on the individual's identified needs.
  • Complete documentation in electronic health record (EHR) according to statute.
  • Collaborate and consult with other mental health professionals, case managers, and support-networks with the appropriate authorization.
  • Provide services including interim care coordination and long-term professional supports.

Need to have:
  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field and two or more years of post-master's degree experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Qualification as a Mental Health Professional in the state of Minnesota.
  • Current licensure in the state of Minnesota, as one or more of the following:
    • Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work
    • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
    • Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

Nice to have:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Experience:
    • In crisis assessment, safety planning, and short-term interventions.
    • With EHR systems such as Epic.
    • With trauma informed care, harm reduction, and person-centered trainings.
  • Ability to:
    • Work effectively under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
    • Demonstrate effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and systems of care.
