This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital-Forensics, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203.

As the Social Work Director under the general supervision of the GWBPH CEO, you will monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of social work services furnished at GWBPH facilities – Civil, Child & Adolescent, and Forensics, in accordance with accepted standards of practice and established policies and procedures. Provide leadership, ownership and accountability for the functions of the social work divisions serving each GWBPH facility. Serve as a member of GWBPH leadership. You will be responsible for administrative oversight and management required to meet statutory mandates, policy, and accreditation/licensing associated with the complex patient populations served by GWBPH. Represent GWBPH at community meetings, developing and maintaining professional relationships with community partners.

Responsibilities for the Social Work Director include:
  • Supervise and manage the day to day operations of social work services for GWBPH Civil, Child & Adolescent, and Forensics, providing regular documented administrative and clinical supervision; monitoring time, attendance, and workload assignments; recruiting, developing, and retaining qualified staff; completing regular documented competency and employee evaluations for assigned staff; supervising internship placements; and ensuring compliance with Harassment Free Workplace, Corporate Compliance, Time Keeping, EPMS, Cultural Competence, and Zero Suicide.
  • Provide consultation and assistance to multidisciplinary treatment teams and other disciplines as requested. Monitor treatment team schedules, social work assignments, treatment planning, discharge planning, and conducts regular of audits clinical documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Function as part of the GWBPH Leadership Team and GWBPH Policy Committee and attend scheduled meetings.

    Collaborate effectively with other disciplines to ensure implementation of a mission-aligned, evidence-based service delivery model.

    Maintain policy and procedure for social work services in alignment with BPH policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate with Clinical Treatment Services on each campus to plan and monitor active treatment practice in compliance with policy, licensing, accreditation, state and federal regulations. Work with CTS leaders to establish consistent criteria and practice for determining discharge readiness.
  • Complete all required trainings and maintains competencies in MANDT, CPR, Infection Control, Safety and Risk Management, Patient Rights, and other assigned trainings.
  • Will serve as an auditor of the Post Incident Review team and the Seclusion and Restraint Audit Team. Conduct monthly audits for CTS department.

Requirements

  • A masters or doctorate degree in social work from a program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body for social work programs, or from a social work program whose standards are at least equivalent to the minimum standards required by the nationally recognized accrediting body as approved by the Board.
Additional Requirements:

Employee must have the physical ability to walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to move freely between and around GWBPH campuses (Civil, Child & Adolescent, and Forensics) to complete duties; technological literacy including navigating electronic health record (EHR); Occasional weekends to supervise subordinates on a rotating basis.

  • This position is considered essential and may be required to provide hazardous weather coverage as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    • Have thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws applying to social work programs and forensic issues
    • Be licensed as LISW in good standing by the South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners
