Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations of a social services office in Wayne County, including managing finances, facilities, staff, and programs to support community health and welfare.

It requires coordinating with teams to ensure smooth operations, handle emergencies, and maintain a safe environment for employees and clients.

A good fit would be someone with strong organizational skills, experience in office management within government or social services, and a passion for helping people achieve stability.

Key Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Four years of experienced (E7) level administrative support experience in a DHS county or district office
  • OR two years of experienced (E10) level business and administrative paraprofessional experience, advanced (10) level business and administrative technician experience, or supervisory (9 or 10) level administrative support experience
  • OR one year of advanced (11) level business and administrative paraprofessional experience, supervisory (11) level business and administrative technician experience, experienced (P11) level business and administrative professional experience, supervisory (11 or 12) level administrative support experience, or Assistance Payments Supervisor 12 experience
  • Ability to provide administrative and management direction/supervision in areas like finance, facilities, procurement, security, and technology
  • Experience in coordinating personnel policies, employee services, and emergency management
  • Membership on a management team and collaboration with program managers

Provide administrative and management direction/supervision. This position has overall responsibility for local office administrative management; finance management; internal controls; facility and contract management; health and safety; procurement, purchasing and inventory management, security team management, volunteer services and technology management. Supportive services include coordination of personnel policies and practices; employee services; and emergency management. This position develops, coordinates, participates, and manages local office operations and program mandates in coordination with Services Program Managers. This position is a member of the management team.

    Requirements

    Education
    Possession of a high school diploma or a GED Certificate.

    Experience
    Four years of experienced (E7) level, administrative support experience gained in a DHS county or district office.

    OR

    Two years of experienced (E10) level, business and administrative, paraprofessional experience; advanced (10) level, business and administrative, technician experience; or, supervisory (9 or 10) level, administrative support experience.

    OR

    One year of advanced (11) level, business and administrative, paraprofessional experience; supervisory (11) level, business and administrative, technician experience; experienced (P11) level, business and administrative, professional experience; supervisory (11 or 12) level, administrative support experience; or, Assistance Payments Supervisor 12 experience.

    Additional Information

    This position is open to current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) employees only.

    This posting may be used to develop a candidate pool from this interview process that may be used to fill current and future permanent vacancies, limited-term vacancies, and temporary, WOC assignments occurring in the next three months.

    If a position is filled as Limited Term there is a possibility that it may become permanent, but that is not guaranteed. If a position is filled as a WOC assignment, there are set start and end dates for that assignment, not to exceed 26-pay periods, as needed.


    The physical location of this position is 26355 Michigan, Inkster, MI 48141. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

    This position has the ability to work hybrid (combination of remote and office). Selected candidates who have been approved to work hybrid must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

    Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:


    • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
    • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
    • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
