Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing and deciding on disability claims for Social Security benefits, including initial applications, reconsiderations, and ongoing reviews to ensure people qualify for support.

It requires carefully examining medical and work-related details to make fair determinations.

A good fit would be someone with experience in claims processing who is detail-oriented and comfortable analyzing complex cases.

Key Requirements

  • 52 weeks of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent
  • Experience developing, examining, investigating, or adjudicating medical disability claims
  • Knowledge of vocational policies for assessing ability to perform past or other work
  • Skill in making final medical and vocational disability determinations
  • Ability to perform comprehensive reviews of Title II and Title XVI claims
  • Experience with initial, reconsideration, or continuing disability reviews
  • U.S. citizenship required

Positions under this announcement are being filled using a Direct Hire Authority (DHA), open to all U.S. citizens.

Selections made under this bulletin will be processed as new appointments to the civil service. Current civil service employees would be given new appointments to the civil service.

To qualify for the GS 12: the applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-11 level, or equivalent, which includes ALL of the following: Developing, examining, investigating, adjudicating, authorizing, or otherwise administering claims for medical disability programs.

Applying vocational policies regarding the ability to perform past and other work in making disability determinations.

Making final medical and vocational disability determinations at the initial, reconsideration, or continuing disability review level.

Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Major Duties:

  • Performs a comprehensive and intensive review of the disability aspects of selected title II and title XVI claims, and
  • continuing disability reviews, including initial actions and those which have been reconsidered by the State agencies or in face to face disability hearings;
  • identifies trends and issues which impact the disability program.
