This job involves leading a team that operates and maintains small boats up to 74 feet long at a naval station in Hawaii, ensuring safe navigation, handling cargo, and responding to emergencies like oil spills.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in boating or maritime work, strong leadership skills to guide a crew, and a focus on safety and quick problem-solving in challenging conditions.
You will serve as a SMALL CRAFT OPERATOR LEADER in the PORT OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL STATION.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE 1) Directing daily operations of the crew by assigning work, determining priorities, and instructing crew members; 2) Performing general maintenance and scheduled repairs, loading cargo, rigging sampling equipment, directing the vessel to its destination 3) Laying out courses to assigned destinations, using navigational and electronic aids to plot routes and determining whether scheduled operations can be safely performed on craft up to 74-foot; 4) Responding to oil spills and performing cleanup efforts related to oil spills; and 5) Identifying hazardous materials and proper disposal.
