Full Job Description

You will serve as a Sign Painter Supervisor in the Navy Personnel Command (NAVPERSCOM) Corrections and Programs Office (PERS-00D) ofNAVAL CONSOLIDATED BRIG MIRAMAR.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Ability to Lead or Supervise others; 2) Working with a diverse group of people, (e.g., prisoners), producing signs and posters, decorating models and displays, or performing other functions requiring skill in lettering and graphic arts; 3) Providing given instructions to post-trial individuals, (e.g., prisoners), to use industry standards hardware and software for graphic design as it relates the signs art; and/or 4) Operating industry standard software which support graphic design.

I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • You will serve as the manager of and lead vocational Sign Painter instructor of the Sign Shop.
  • You will instruct and supervise post-trial prisoners in duties to include, producing signs and posters; painting markings on vehicles, ships or aircraft; or performing other functions requiring skill in lettering and graphic arts.
  • You will organize staffs, leads and control a vocational workshop in a corrections environment.
  • You will prepare and manage work projects and assignments; schedule shifts and sequences of operations; and assign prisoners sign making, sign painting and related tasks.
  • You will operate and supervise the operation of computers and software supporting the graphical design of products and training requirements of a Sign Shop.
  • You will determine the steps required and complete projects using standard trade practices.
