Job Description

Summary

This job involves guiding young offenders through rehabilitation programs, including counseling sessions, assessments, and planning for their release back into the community while working in South Carolina's corrections system.

It focuses on helping juveniles improve their behavior and prepare for a better future after parole or reentry.

Key Requirements

  • OR High school diploma plus five years of professional experience in human services or social services programs
  • Knowledge of psychology, sociology, human services, and therapeutic techniques
  • Strong communication, time management, and written/verbal skills
  • Ability to operate a personal computer
  • Must successfully complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire

Full Job Description

  • Facilitates all assigned individualized and group rehabilitative programming and counseling services to designated offender population to include orientation and assessment.

  • Documents all offender orientation, assessments, case management, crisis interventions and other rehabilitative services within the YOPRS database in accordance with YOPRS policy and standards.

  • Responsible for completing offender intake and eligibility for shock program participation and ensuring timely responses to the courts as outlined in statute.

  • Provides appropriate rehabilitative recommendations concerning Juvenile offenders’ compliance for return to the SCDJJ custody/ or conditional release with respect to offender's behaviors and progress made throughout services.

  • Works in conjunction with other agencies while participating in multidisciplinary meetings, classification reviews, and reentry planning conferences in addition to submitting monthly reports as required.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

SCDC Minimum Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

OR

  • An associate's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and three (3) years professional experience in human services or social services programs.

OR

  • A high school diploma and five (5) years professional experience in human services or social services programs.

  • Must possess knowledge of psychology, sociology, human services and/or therapeutic techniques; appropriate communication, time management, and written/verbal skills, ability to operate a personal computer.
