Job Description
Summary
This job involves working as a shipfitter at a naval shipyard, where you'll plan and execute repairs on metal ship hulls and structures to ensure they remain watertight and strong.
You'll follow blueprints, sketches, or instructions to fix or replace damaged parts on ships.
It's a great fit for hands-on tradespeople with experience in metalworking and ship repair who enjoy working independently with minimal oversight.

- Ability to perform shipfitting tasks without more than normal supervision (screen-out element)
- Knowledge of trade methods for maintaining watertight integrity on metal ship hulls

- Quality level of knowledge and skills in shipfitting, evaluated based on experience and training

Full Job Description
You will serve as a SHIPFITTER in the Structural Shop (Code 920), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.
