Full Job Description

You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER in the AVIATION MAINTENANCE/MATERIAL DEPARTMENT of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE, and performing common tasks as a Sheet Metal Mechanic including: 1) Overhauling, repairing, assembling, disassembling, modifying, aligning, checking, testing, and diagnosing aircraft systems; 2) Utilizing precision measuring devices and equipment; 3) Identifying and documenting non-conforming issues, making well-informed technical decisions based on current engineering specifications and directives, ensuring work and processing adhere to authorized parameters; 4) Ensuring worked products adhere to technical specifications; and 5) Conducting assessments, and compiling work instructions outlining tasks for depot rework specifications.

I work under close supervision of a higher level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

  • You will inspect, analyze, assess, and determine the condition of aircraft structural systems, sub-systems, and components.
  • You will disassemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft and aircraft components.
  • You will provide technical advice, guidance, and work direction to artisans.
  • You will distribute work to keep everyone in the crew productive and check work in progress and when finished to determine if proper work sequence procedures, methods, and deadlines were met.
