Job Description
Summary
This job is for a Sergeant at a South Carolina prison, where you'll oversee security staff during shifts, handle inmate issues, and ensure smooth operations in the facility.

Full Job Description
- Supervises the performance of Security personnel assigned to shift.
- Assists with preparation of employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling sessions.
- Assists with conducting shift briefings with all officers.
- Remains familiar with all activities occurring during the shift to keep subordinates informed of changes affecting inmates and operations.
- Makes routine and non-routine security checks of work areas and living area units
- Conducts formal and non-formal counts.
- Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action; instructs and counsels inmates as required.
- Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
- Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates; performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
