Requirements

The Loudoun County Department of General Services is looking for a passionate and skilled Senior Stormwater Engineer to take on a pivotal role in shaping the future of stormwater management in one of the nation’s fastest-growing counties. As a Senior Stormwater Engineer, you'll be at the heart of ensuring our community stays compliant with local, state, and federal regulations while leading the way in creating innovative solutions for stormwater infrastructure, flood mitigation, and water quality protection. We're looking for candidates with a strong background in stormwater engineering, project management, and regulatory compliance, but more importantly, someone who shares our commitment to sustainability and preserving the environment. The successful candidate will take charge of a variety of exciting and impactful tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Leading stormwater projects and overseeing Best Management Practices (BMP) repairs to keep our community safe and sustainable.
  • Contributing to stormwater planning efforts within the Water Programs Division—Stormwater Program, shaping the future of our region’s water management.
  • Organizing, planning, and managing complex stormwater management programs that make a real difference in our environment.
  • Taking the lead in planning, designing, and acquiring stormwater management facilities that help protect our community.
  • Overseeing Public Works projects that contribute to the county's growth and infrastructure.
  • Supporting the development of professional services and construction contract scopes of work, managing consultants, contracts, and grants to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Managing construction and post-construction activities for stormwater and public works projects, ensuring all work is completed as planned and to the highest standards.
  • Leading various programs that ensure the County’s compliance with the MS4 permit, safeguarding the environment for future generations.

You’ll also play an essential role in providing excellent customer service, collaborating with residents, businesses, and other government agencies. In this position, you’ll represent the county at public meetings, engage with stakeholders, and ensure every project reflects the needs and goals of our community.

This position is eligible for partial telework in accordance with County and Department policies.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, construction management, or related field and three (3) years of related professional engineering and/or environmental science experience with direct design as well as administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred:
  • Experience working within a local government public works or stormwater organization.
  • Experience administering Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit requirements.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license

Additional Information

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), to include criminal, credit, fingerprinting, and DMV checks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Must be able to occasionally work evenings or weekends to accommodate meetings and outreach events. This position may require field work and presence at development and construction sites.

Must be available to respond to County emergencies (24/7) as directed in accordance with Department policy and written or verbal directive. This position is considered essential personnel.
