James A. Haley Veterans Hospital is looking for Social Worker.

This position is located at the James A Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, FL.is a Level I tertiary medical center with general medicine, surgical, psychiatric, rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, nursing home care beds and one of four Polytrauma treatment facilities in the VA, It also encompasses one major outpatient clinic in New Port Richey and three community-based outpatient clinics in Brooksville, Lakeland, and Zephyrhills.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency.

In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited.

Note: A doctoral degree in Social Work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in Social Work.

Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.

Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure.

Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualification criteria must be met for each grade.

The candidate's qualifications must clearly demonstrate the level of competence required for the grade.S SSocial Worker, GS-11 Experience and Licensure.

Appointment to the GS-11 grade level requires completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level.

OR Education.

In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.

In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.

(b) Skill in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds.

(c) Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures (i.e.

acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology) to formulate a treatment plan.

(d) Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.

(e) Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.

Full Performance Level] Assignments. This is the full performance level. Social workers at this level are licensed or certified to independently practice social work.

Incumbents are assigned to all program areas, including but not limited to: inpatient or outpatient medicine, surgery, mental health, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, and geriatrics.

Employees provide professional, independent social work services in the assigned area.

Duties include but are not limited to: assessing and documenting identified behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and/or intimate partner violence; use of clinical social work skills and knowledge to maintain Veteran privacy and confidentiality per policies, handbooks or directives; and acts as an advocate with appropriate VA and community service providers and agencies when it serves the best interest of the Veteran and family members/caregiver.

Incumbent independently assesses the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and their family members, identifying the Veteran's strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and psychosocial acuity.

In collaboration with the Veteran, family/caregiver, and interdisciplinary treatment team, the social worker facilitates the delivery of health care services.

The social worker identifies family/caregiver stressors, conducts assessment and provides specific interventions.

The incumbent provides case management and care coordination to facilitate appropriate delivery of health care services, incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veterans, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.

The social worker links the Veteran with services, resources, and opportunities, in order to maximize the Veteran's independence, health, and well-being.

The social worker conducts timely assessment of at-risk Veterans in crisis to identify immediate needs, evaluate risk, and initiate safety plan as appropriate.

The social worker provides interventions independently with Veterans and their families/caregivers who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, behavioral health, financial, legal, and psychosocial problems.

They provide a range of interventions and treatment modalities which may include individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy.

They independently formulate and implement a treatment plan including measurable, achievable goals identifying the Veterans' needs, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and psychosocial acuity.

Social workers serve on committees, work groups, and task forces at the facility and VISN level or in the community.

They provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of Veterans offering professional opinions based on experience, expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills.

The duties of The Office of Community Care (OCC) Senior Social Worker with the James A.

Haley VA include, but are not limited to: The incumbent functions as a member of the interdisciplinary "OCC" team. Assists with Veteran discharges from non-VA hospitals in the Tampa VA catchment area.

Receives and reviews clinicals to assess for eligibility for VA services/programs upon discharge and assists in coordinating that referral. Maintains efficient communication with OCC team members.

Communicates appropriate alternative options to non-VA hospital case managers when Veterans do not meet eligibility requirements.

Completes a warm hand-off to PACT Social Worker when patients/families require VA Social Work assistance. Completes a warm hand-off to other VA providers when appropriate. It also includes: A.

Clinical The incumbent performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies, and universities.

Technical assistance provided to monitor activities and program reviews, and the development and analysis of information.

In addition, the incumbent uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements.

The incumbent performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contact work as possible with various agencies (public, DOD, state, etc.).

The incumbent must possess the ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines and evaluate assigned program area(s).

The incumbent carries full responsibility for cases, presenting a wide range of social emotional and environmental problems and will provide services according to the assessment of the Veteran's needs, encompassing even the most difficult cases.

The incumbent provides professional services to clients with serious problems which are not an incidental part of the workload but are regularly performed on a continuing basis.

The incumbent makes decisions regarding individual caseload priorities and workload activities in collaboration with treatment teams and based on the patient's needs, goals, and objectives of the team and the VA Health Care System.

Once consulted, the incumbent assesses and determines the extent and intensity of social work treatment required for individuals and their families.

The incumbent makes recommendations to the treatment team based on the Social Work assessment, focusing on providing the Veteran with the needed internal and external resources/supports in the least restrictive environment.

Administrative The incumbent will: Complete documentation in compliance with the Social Work Assessment and Documentation Policy and Complete statistics and work productivity in compliance with the Social Work Statistics and Work Productivity Policy.

Complete consults in compliance with the Social Work Assessment and Documentation Policy.

Maintain an updated knowledge of and effectively carry out and/or utilize VA programs, policies, procedures, services and benefits.

Be knowledgeable of the services available in the community and make appropriate referrals for clients (per NASW Standards for the Practice of Clinical Social Work).

Maintain accessibility to clients (per NASW Standards for the Practice of Clinical Social Work).

Safeguard the confidential nature of the treatment relationship and of the information obtained within that relationship (per NASW Standards for the Practice of Clinical Social Work).

Perform and exhibit knowledge and skills specific to the young adult, the adult and the geriatric patient and incorporate age specific issues into assessments, treatments and planning. C.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION/TRAINING The incumbent must possess the ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.

The incumbent will be compliant with the fiscal year (mandatory training requirements of the Health Care System).

The incumbent will be professionally responsible to learn, practice and support all existing safety practices relevant to their position.

The incumbent will further contribute to and keep abreast of new safety practices as they are developed.

The incumbent provides in-service training to Social Work Service staff, to staff from other disciplines, and to students and volunteers as assigned.

The incumbent supervises and/or trains MSW graduate school interns, summer aides, and volunteers as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
