Houston's Health Department is seeking a talented individual to perform the following duties as a Senior Nutritionist.In accordance with Federal, State, and Local policies and procedures perform screenings which include, proof of identification and residency, income determination, anthropometrics, and hemoglobin testing.
Utilizing the Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment Model obtain a health history to determine risks, nutritional need, aid participant in setting goals and determine program eligibility.
Prescribe supplemental food package, assess need for breastfeeding support, breast pumps or supplies, and issue in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Issue and maintain inventory of returned formula, breast pumps and supplies, and educational material according to policies and procedures.
- Implement and conduct individual nutrition consultation and care for high-risk participants using Nutrition Care Process systematic model.
- Review, approve and follow-up on medical request for formula products, according to State and Local WIC Policy and Procedures
- Responsible for supervising daily activities
- Serves as an instructor or leader for nutrition classes and programs.
- Summarizes, prepares and submits monthly reports as required.
- Performs special projects as requested.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of experience as a Nutritionist or Dietitian, or closely related field.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMust have a Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Qualifications
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
* WIC Experience preferred.
