Full Job Description

As a Senior Investigative Support Assistant at the GS-1802-8, you will be part of the Office of Field Programs, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

If selected, you will be responsible to perform intake functions, manage online calendars, coordinate overflow interviews, and conduct thorough charge assessments.

You will also provide the technical and clerical support needed for intake and investigation of employment-discrimination charges under federal laws enforced by the Commission.

For the GS-8: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the federal service.

Specialized experience may include interviewing potential charging parties (PCPs); requesting information; assessing the likely merits of a charge; determining jurisdiction; utilizing the EEOC's electronic intake/charge systems; organizing information; using word processing and basic spreadsheet software to accomplish daily tasks; and reviewing basic documents or investigative forms for accuracy and completeness.

Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 8 level.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements (e.g., time-in-grade and qualification requirements) within 30 days of the closing date specified in the vacancy announcement.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • Assists in managing the online calendar for staff availability and intake interviews to ensure timely actions that may impact filing time constraints for Potential Charging Parties (PCPs).
  • Conducts preliminary in-depth interviews with PCPs about possible employment discrimination claims, gathers relevant facts, and determines when sufficient information has been obtained.
  • Counsels PCPs to explain jurisdictional issues, timelines, legal requirements, and charge processing procedures. Drafts charges and makes preliminary assessments; prepares charges and accompanying affidavits, as necessary.
  • Performs case analyses in sufficient detail to assist investigators in preparing reports and their analysis of evidence to reach and support findings.
  • Assists the Charge Receipt and Technical Information Unit supervisor with intake duties. Provides information on the status of inquiries and tracks status of charge activity.
  • Serves as a resource for other investigative support assistants and enforcement staff, including enforcement supervisors and investigators.
  • Types a variety of materials such as investigative reports, memoranda, etc. Proofreads materials for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, required format, and compliance with correspondence procedures.
