Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with planning readiness operations exercises; providing advice on exercise policies and procedures; and assisting in the development of new approaches to the exercise programs for the organization.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For the GS-13, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Major Duties:

  • Serve as a liaison officer interfacing with senior leadership in order to ensure the appropriate approvals are obtained and to de-conflict operations for real-world contingencies. Select
  • Coordinates with US country team and/or local representatives to identify potential exercise locations,
  • Briefs host nation and/or local authorities to obtain permission for conduct of exercise activities
  • Lead and oversee special operations exercises, involving each of the Geographic Combatant Commanders (GCC) on a rotating basis.
  • Plans and executes a series of global readiness exercises and short duration emergency deployment readiness exercises that directly support COMJSOC requirements.
  • Provides regular exercise updates in the form of briefings, information papers and other product development for the COMJSOC, Director, and other senior leaders.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and lead in the coordination and execution of complex exercises and operational rehearsals that include combatant commands and Staff.
  • Responsible for developing challenging and relevant exercise scenarios that incorporate intelligence threat assessments and CCMD contingency plans
  • Develops the manning requirements for Joint Exercise Control Group (JECG) and target support locations
