This role provides high-level administrative and executive support to the director of a state bureau focused on grants and purchasing, handling confidential tasks, coordinating meetings, and ensuring smooth operations.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Six years of office experience in administrative support practices
  • Three years equivalent to an advanced 8-level administrative support role (e.g., Secretary E8 or Legal Secretary E8)
  • Two years equivalent to a Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9
  • One year equivalent to Division Head Legal Secretary 10 or Executive Secretary E10
  • Associate’s degree in executive secretarial science may substitute for one year of Secretary 9 experience
  • Ability to handle complex, confidential, and time-sensitive tasks

This position is filled through a limited-term Senior Executive Service agreement. Salary commensurate with candidate qualifications.

Serves as a primary administrative and management support resource to the Director of the Bureau of Grants and Purchasing. Provides a full range of complex, confidential, and time-sensitive administrative and executive support functions to support leadership decision-making and the effective operation of the Bureau. Participates in and supports other administrative functions, including coordination of meetings, events, and internal communications.

    Requirements

    Education
    Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

    Experience
    Six years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including three years equivalent to an advanced, 8-level, administrative support worker, Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8; two years equivalent to a Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9; or, one year equivalent to the Division Head Legal Secretary 10 or Executive Secretary E10.

    Qualifications

    Possession of an associate’s degree in applied arts and sciences in an executive secretarial science curriculum may be substituted for one year as a Secretary 9.

    Additional Information

    The physical location of this position is 235 S. Grand Ave., Lansing, MI. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.Ingham CountySelected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
