Full Job Description

The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Senior Communications Technician.

Oversee daily operations, offer direction to team members, and ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.

Monitors and manages incoming orders, ensuring accurate logging, processing, and timely completion. Collaborates with team members to allocate tasks and ensure workload distribution.

Responsible for providing training for Communication Technicians, ensuring they understand the campus layout, cable pathways, and safety protocols.

Required Work Experience Five to seven years of relevant experience and a minimum of three years of experience as a communications technician in the Senate or equivalent position that provides the additional required special skills and knowledge.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.

Comprehensive knowledge of the Senate campus layout and cable infrastructure. Desired Qualifications Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in confined spaces.

Ability to climb and use ladders. BISCI certifications is an asset but not a requirement. Ability to occasionally lift items (up to 50lbs). Excel and Visio knowledge are a plus.

Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S.

Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions.

In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate.

Work requires employee to wearing uniforms (or gloves, or other protective equipment besides a respirator). Major Duties:

Installs and maintains voice systems and devices. Installs, tests, and maintains copper infrastructure. Troubleshoots voice and data problems.

Performs site surveys, uses service orders and floor plans to complete daily work orders and large renovation orders. Works an on-call schedule on a rotational basis.

Supports last-minute and after-hours service requests for special events and meetings. Other duties as assigned.
