Summary

This job involves helping set up and maintain audio, video, lighting, and scoreboard systems for events at a convention center, while supervising a small team and troubleshooting issues on the spot.

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for providing assistance to the Technical Systems Supervisor in preparing the closed circuit television and scoreboard systems for each event. Exercises technical supervision over assigned staff.

Work Schedule

  • Starting Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Friday - Tuesday
  • Required Schedule Rotations
  • Schedule may vary based on business needs, including events, nights, and holidays

Requirements

  • Provides assistance to tenants in defining and establishing audio visual requirements for events.
  • Prepares closed circuit television equipment, scoreboard computers, lighting systems, and sound systems on event days.
  • Provides on-site maintenance of equipment during events, may be exposed to electrical hazards.
  • Repairs malfunctioning equipment, including scoreboards, controls, TV sets, cameras, video switching and distribution equipment, lighting systems and sound equipment may require sitting, standing, or stooping and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.

    May also require working on Catwalks and Grids up to 80 feet in the air.

  • Develops and institutes preventive maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Runs diagnostic programs on system computers and character generators to determine proper operation of equipment required for events.
  • Prepares written reports and correspondence and communicating with staff to assist with technical work.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in setting up and operating broadcast, studio, and/or event audio visual equipment.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Must become CPR certified within one (1) year of employment.
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience working in live event environments such as clubs, theatres, convention centers, arenas, or similar venues.
  • Experience with basic setup and operation of audio, video, and lighting equipment, with the ability to troubleshoot and handle minor equipment issues during events.
  • Experience coordinating with teams during event setup, operation, and load-out.
  • Familiarity with general stagecraft practices, such as cable management and safe equipment handling.
  • Experience in municipal, institutional, or vendor supported work environments.
  • Experience working on Catwalks and Grids up to 80 feet in the air.
Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

    • Ability to use electronic test equipment.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
    • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
    • Working conditions are primarily in an inside environment.
