Job Description

Summary

This job involves operating and maintaining large offset printing presses to produce secure documents like passports for the government.

You'll set up equipment, monitor production runs, make adjustments, and ensure everything runs safely and meets high-quality standards.

This position is part of the Government Secure and Intelligent Documents, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia To qualify for the Second Offset Pressperson, applicants must meet the following Screen Out-Element: #1 - Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element.

If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration.

In addition to the SCREENOUT, applicants must also have the ability to perform the following: Assigning and managing workloads Setting up, adjusting, operating, inspecting and maintaining multi-color offset sheet-fed presses (up to 7 units with split fountains) and screen-printing presses Printing passports and other security and quality work according to specifications Installing plates and blankets on press; examining plates for obvious defects Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.

Major Duties:

  • Ensuring that all safety devices are engaged and safety procedures are followed.
  • Setting up presses and equipment according to specifications.
  • Monitoring the presses throughout the press run, making adjustments as needed.
  • Performing minor maintenance on presses regularly and inspecting, adjusting, replacing, and setting rollers.
  • Directing, assisting and instructing Feeder Operator or PPWs in the maintenance, cleaning, and securing of the press.
